NY78 Wins series against Balt70

Game 1 Balt 2 NYY 1 (@ Memorial Stadium)

Mickey Rivers leads off with a HR for the Yanks.

Turns out that was also their last score of the game. Catfish Hunter and Jim Hardin both put in outstanding performances as starters for each team. Each only allowing 1 run for the g

Game 2 NYY 4 Balt 3 (@ Memorial Stadium)

Dick Tidrow held Baltimore to 1 run through 7 1/3 innings., for a 3-1 lead. With the Goose pitching and the Yanks scoring another run in the top of the ninth the game should have been pretty mucYour browser may not support display of this image. But Gossage didn’t have his normal stuff allowing 2 runs to score and the tying on third base, before he struck Don Buford out for the final out of the game.

Game 3 NYY 6 Balt 2 (@ Yankee Stadium)

Ron Guidry finally got his first win of the year to move to (1-3). Only bad pitch was a two run shot by Merv Rettenmund in the fourth. But the Yanks jumped on the O’s in the fifth batting around and scoring 5 runs for a 6-2 lead. Rich Gossage came on in the eighth to preserve the win for Guidry. Graig Nettles had 3 hits for the game moving him to .220 for the year, otherwise he be in the sub .200 group of Yankee starters like C. Chambliss, R. Jackson, and M. Rivers.
