‘20 Tribe takes 2 of 3 from ‘91 Twinkies

9/10-9/11 - HHH Metrodome
GAME 1 - Twins 3, Indians 0
Jack_Morris_MIN Jack Morris
does what he does best, come up big in big games.  The Minnesota native pitched 8 innings of 2 hit, shutout ball then gave way to Rick Aguilera to post the save.  It all worked according to play.  The Twinkies scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first to set the pace.  Chuck Knoblauch worked out a walk to lead off the game.  Kirby Puckett then doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd.  A balk plated "Knobby" and moved Puckett over to third, where he easily scored on a Kent Hrbek ground out.  Knobby knocked in the 3rd run of the game in the 2nd with a 2 out single that scored Greg Gagne.

GAME 2 - Indians 5, Twins 3
Kevin Tapani was pitching a fine game then twisted his plant kneeTris_Speaker_CLE with 2 outs in the 5th and had to leave.  Minnesota was up 2-1 at that point and had to bring in Denny Neagle, who "spit the bit".  Neagle gave up 3 runs (2 earned) in 3+ innings of less than fantastic work.  Tris Speaker went 4 for 5 for the Tribe to bump his average up to .390.  Kirby Puckett hit his 4th homer of the season, but that would not be enough.  Jim Bagby (4-2, 2.34) went coast to coast for the Tribe fanning 4 in this complete game victory.

GAME 3 - Indians 7, Twins 4
stan_coveleski_CLE Fans were treated to a 2 hour rain delay, but still weren't upset because the Tribe returned from the bad weather to post 4 runs off of Twin reliever Mark Guthrie.  Scott Erickson started the game, but after the long delay never made it back to the hill.  Guthrie was tapped to eat innings for the team, and while he did just that the Tribe ate him alive.  Stan Coveleski (3-3, 2.72) gutted it out for 6 innings before he ran out of gas.  The hometown fans were appreciative of his effort and how he was able to return after the 2 hour layover.  Guthrie was in trouble the minute he took the hill.  Backup catcher Less Nunamaker led off the bottom of the 3rd with a clean single and was bunted over to second by Covaleski.  The next two batters walked to load the bases and Tris Speaker singled home Nunamaker to make it 1-0.  Elmer Smith struck out looking at a borderline called strike three for the second out of the inning.  Larry Gardner came through big time with a clutch 2 run single to put the Tribe up 3-0 and Bill Wambsganss followed up withBill_Wambsganss_CLE a clutch RBI single of his own to make it 4-0.  The Twins hit back to back homers to lead off the 6th to cut the lead in half.  Kent Hrbek and Larry Webster each went yard.  Cleveland answered right back with 2 of their own when Wambsganss tripled homer Gardner and Doc Johnston lifted a sac fly to deep right.  The Twinkies tried to make it close in the 9th when they gutted out 2 runs, but the rally fell short and the Tribe won 7-4.
