9/10-9/11 - Royals Stadium
GAME 1 - Royals 5, Orioles 4 With the score knotted at 4 all the lackluster Royals were able to pull it out when Onyx Concepcion was able to advance to second on an error by the normally sure-handed Mark Belanger. Willie Wilson put the nail in the coffin as he singled cleanly to center off of reliever Pete Richert to win it. The amazing George Brett went 2 for3 to increase his season average to .364. Brett also hit his 3rd homer of the season on a 3 RBI day.
GAME 2 - Royals 5, Orioles 2
In a battle of former Cy Young award winners, Brett Saberhagen (3-1, 2.50) bested Jim Palmer (5-1, 3.19). Baltimore's ace had one of those rare off days yielding 5 runs in 7 innings of work. With the score knotted at 2 all the Royals posted a 3 spot in the 7th to chase Palmer from the hill and give "Sabes" the lead. With one on (Buddy Biancalana) and 2 out Palmer looked certain to get out of the inning without allowing a run. 4 consecutive singles later Palmer was done for the day as was his team. Steve Farr came on to close it out in the 9th to notch his first save. Rumor has it Royal manager Joey Scigliano has grown tired of "the Quiz" blowing big games.
9/12- Memorial Stadium
GAME 3 - Royals 16, Orioles 10 Typically the Royals won't score 16 runs in a week, let alone a single game. Even stranger is the fact that it occurred off of Dave McNally one of Baltimore's "Trilogy" of aces. With KC leading 9-5 heading into the 9th both teams either lost interest in getting the opposition out or the offense was just that good today. KC scored 7 runs in the top of the inning to make it 16-5. Baltimore came back off off Mike LaCoss, who was being used as fodder, to score 5 and put the O's in double digits as well. Frank White went 5 for 6 with 5 RBI for the Royals, along with 3 runs scored. Strangely, the great George Brett, took the collar (0-4) in a game where his team launched 19 hits. Frank Whites offensive effort included 3 homers, on a day where both teams combined to hit 8 bombs.
