‘46 Redbirds sweep ‘95 Braves

9/10-9/11 - Fulton County Stadium
GAME 1 - Cardinals 4, Braves 0

Whitey_Kurowski_STL Howie Pollet went the distance with a tidy 3 hit shutout.  Steve Avery left after 5 and 2/3's down by 1.  St. Louis posted a solo run in the top of the 1st Whitey Kurowski hit a homer with 1 out.  Kurowski hit another homer in the 7t to put the Cards up 2-0.  The Cards scored 2 more in the 8th to provide Pollet with all the support he was going to need.

GAME 2 - Cardinals 8, Braves 0
This time it was Max Lanier's turn to throw a complete gameMax_Lanier_STL shutout.  Lanier fanned 6 and allowed only 5 hits total, while protecting a 3 run lead into the 9th when St. Louis exploded for 5 more insurance runs.  Greg Maddux went 8 and gave up 3.  Brad Clontz was victimized for the 5 run outburst in the 9th.  Stan "the Man" Musial went 2 for 5 with a double and triple and 3 RBI's to increase his season average to .398.

9/12- Sportsman Park
GAME 3 – Cardinals 7, Braves 5

Stan_Musial_STL Tommy Glavine had a one run lead heading into the 7th when Stan Musial doubled  and scored on a single by Terry Moore.  Joe Garagiola, pinch hitting for Kluttz, doubled home Moore, who had advanced to second on a passed ball.  St. Louis added 2 more runs in the 8th to break the 5-5 tie.  Mury Dickson (3-0, 2.10) pitched 3 scoreless innings in relief of the marginally effective Hal Brecheen to gain the victory. Stan Musial went 4 for 5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored to move his average above .400.  Greg McMichael, in relief of Glavine, took the loss and helped squander 3 Brave homers.
